INTRODUCTION
GC – Exchange 2007/2010 Contacts Synchronizer is used to synchronize contacts from public folders to multiple users’ contacts folder. If you are using Microsoft Exchange 2007 or 2010 for e-mail, and you have common company wide contacts in your public folder you can use this application to synchronize these contacts in public folder to a sub-folder of your contacts folder. You can synchronize your BlackBerry, iPhone or other hand held devices from here.
HOW THE APPLICATION WORKS
The application has two parts. The first is the configuration part. Here you specify the public folder that holds the master list of contacts, the mailboxes and the sub-folder to which you need to synchronize the contacts. The folder can be a sub-folder of the contacts folder as well. You can also specify a category or categories. If a category is specified then all the contacts are added to the specified category when it is synchronized to your private folder. You can set synchronization rules to your hand held device based on this category.
You can set phone mapping on selected contacts. If it is checked then, when saving contact to private folder, work phone will be saved to company main and primary phone will be saveed to work phone. You can also set extension mapping on selected contact. If it is checked then, all phone numbers will have their format as <number>,<extension>. These two settings will be useful if you use an iPhone.
The interface shows the list of mailboxes in your exchange server. Select username and enter the contact folder path, category for the contacts. Optionally you can also control if you want to delete any contacts that are in your privtae folder but not in the public folder. Here you also enter the user credentials that will be used to perform the sync operation. Make sure this user has full permissions to the public folder and to the private folder.
The second part consists of scheduling the application that will perform the sync operation. You can use Windows Schedule Task and configure the schedule based on your preference. The application to be scheduled is ExchangeContactSync.exe and you will see this in the installation folder.
The application creates a detailed log file.
